When Jimmy is not helping new students feel at home on campus, you can probably find him listening to or writing music, something he鈥檚 deeply passionate about.
鈥淢usic is how I express what鈥檚 in my heart or what鈥檚 on my mind,鈥 Jimmy said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 something I love and never get tired of doing.鈥
Originally from Tanzania, East Africa, Jimmy admits that coming to the U.S. was a big step.
鈥淏ack home, my community was really close, so when I first came here, I was scared to step outside of my comfort zone,鈥 he said. 鈥淏ut once I opened up and started getting involved, I made amazing memories and met incredible people. I鈥檓 so glad I took that leap early.鈥
One of his favorite experiences so far has been participating in the Pitch Perfect competition, an event held through the School of Business & Communication in which entrepreneurial-minded students at CTX present their innovative startup ideas, following the format of the television series, Shark Thank.
鈥淚 was so nervous at first, but once it was over, I realized how much I鈥檇 grown. It helped me see a stronger, more confident version of myself.鈥
Jimmy doesn鈥檛 just stop there. He also serves as the Historian for the Concordia Business Alliance Club, where students build connections with local business leaders and strengthen their professional skills. On top of that, he is active in Campus Ministry, where he joins Thursday night services that help him stay grounded in his faith and close to friends.
鈥淏eing part of so many things here has really helped me grow,鈥 Jimmy says. 鈥淔rom business to music, to faith, it鈥檚 all shaping who I am becoming. I have learned that stepping out of your comfort zone can lead to the best parts of your story.鈥
